What changes for the owner
Shared hosting provides an environment largely configured by the provider. A VPS gives more control, alongside responsibility for updates, security and monitoring. Check managed administration separately: server access does not mean someone is maintaining it for you.
Compare more than memory and price
Consider CMS requirements, databases, background processes, disk space and backups. A small information website may suit shared hosting; unusual application dependencies may require a server.
- Confirm platform compatibility.
- Establish who handles server updates.
- Check backup and recovery arrangements.
- Compare total costs, including renewal.
Buy for the actual requirement
A larger plan will not automatically fix slow code. Find the bottleneck before changing configuration to avoid paying for resources that do not solve the problem.
