Map the existing website
List pages attracting visits, enquiries or external links. Check forms, catalogue items and downloadable files. This shows what should move, merge or genuinely be removed. Include important pages outside the main menu.
Plan URL changes
When an address changes, redirect it to a relevant replacement where one exists. Sending everything to the homepage often fails visitors’ expectations. Check menus and internal links after launch too.
- Back up files and the database.
- Map old URLs to relevant new destinations.
- Check metadata, forms and mobile layouts.
- Monitor errors after switching over.
Test real tasks
