Preparing artwork for print without surprises

Finished size is not the whole artwork

Printed material is trimmed, so backgrounds usually extend beyond the cut line. Important text and logos stay inside a safe area. Distances depend on the product and equipment; do not copy random values from another job.

Screens and paper reproduce colour differently

Monitor brightness cannot guarantee the printed result. Colour mode, profile, paper and process all matter. For a critical run, agree on a proof or another verification method offered by the printer.

Review the production file

Export can introduce problems even when the working layout is correct. Open the actual print file and check page count, orientation and unwanted elements.
